    How Gleam Works

A transparent explanation of our process for delivering your final messages.

Gleam is a digital legacy service that allows you to create messages that will be delivered to your loved ones after you're presumed deceased. We've designed our system to be reliable, secure, and respectful of this sensitive subject.

    Step 1: Create Your Messages

Write personal messages to your loved ones using our secure editor. Each message is encrypted and can only be read by the intended recipient. Your first message is free, and additional messages cost $10 each.

    Step 2: Regular Check-ins

We'll ask you to log in periodically to confirm you're still with us. This simple check-in prevents false positives and ensures your messages aren't delivered prematurely.

    Step 3: Three-Strike System

If you don't log in for 30 days, we'll send a reminder. If you miss three consecutive reminders (over 51 days total), we'll presume you're deceased. This three-strike approach minimizes false positives.

    Step 4: Message Delivery

Once presumed deceased, your messages are automatically delivered to their recipients. Each recipient receives an email with a secure link and access code to view your message.

    Security & Privacy

    End-to-End Encryption

All messages are encrypted using AES-256-GCM and can only be decrypted when delivered.

    Secure Access Codes

Recipients need both a unique link and an access code to view messages.

    No Message Previews

Email notifications never contain message content, only secure access instructions.

    Data Protection

Your data is protected according to industry best practices and regulations.

    Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know I'm deceased?

We don't know with absolute certainty. Our system presumes you're deceased after you miss three consecutive login reminders over a 51-day period. This approach balances timely delivery with avoiding false positives.

What if I'm just on vacation or hospitalized?

Our three-strike system gives you multiple opportunities to confirm you're still active. The process takes 51 days total, providing ample time to respond even during extended absences.

Can I edit or delete messages?

Yes, you can edit or delete any message that hasn't been delivered yet. If you delete a message, the credit is returned to your account.

    Important Note

Gleam is designed as a best-effort service. While we've built a reliable system, no digital legacy service can guarantee perfect delivery in all circumstances. We recommend informing a trusted person about your Gleam account as a backup.
